Welcome to deep Winter. We have had a fun winter as far as more than one beautiful snowfall here in Oklahoma. We rarely get snow anymore. When we do get snowfall, it’s special.
We’re celebrating deep Winter here at A Chick That Knitz. When we do get snowfall, I often think of the movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. It has such a magical crystal white wintery snow filled landscape that is charming. It inspired me to create our magical wintery snow themed windows.
We have the lion, the witch (Elsa), and the wardrobe. It’s full of warm, soft, and squishy wooly knits.
This is Mr. Tumnus’s cottage where he invites Lucy in for tea. We have two large super chunky and soft and squishy blankets to snuggle up in next to the fire. We’ve got a hot pot of tea ready to warm your insides and baskets of yarn for knitting and crochet projects nearby.
I wanted to show off this beautiful wrap that Sharon Keane of “KansasKlicker” on Etsy made with our 2020 Advent kit! It’s so pretty! It’s the Adventuresome Wrap by Ambah O’Brien available on Ravelry. (Sharon, just keep on knittin’ kitten! I love all your fiber art!)
We’re planning on adding more beginner classes and teachers. I may even teach a beginner class or two!
I wish each and every one of you many blessings. I want everyone to turn from fear and sadness and turn to love, kindness, and happiness. Be generous with your friends and neighbors and even strangers. We all have had to face hard times this past year and I’m so proud of the people that have kept their chins up and carry on with kindness and generosity. We can all find something to be grateful for. I truly love each and every one of you!
Hello Friends! It’s been a minute! This year has been amazing. 2020 will be remembered for a long time! 2020, if anything, has been a year of change. I have a yarn store!
I’ve outgrown my home studio. It’s still here. I work in it every day. I had to move my living room to storage to make room for my yarn. When my daughter finished college and moved into her own home, I confiscated her bedroom for undyed yarn storage. My garage, living room, and 2 bedrooms were completely dedicated to yarn. I thought if I had to pay rent somewhere to carry on and grow, then I was going to have a retail front.
Here she is in charming Downtown Edmond, Oklahoma. We are well received! I had looked and looked all over to find the best place and boy! did we land in the perfect spot! This wasn’t my first choice, it was my 5th choice and the BEST choice. (If your first few choices of something you want don’t pan out, don’t panic! Trust me, it’s for the best!)
This is the 80/20 Sock wall. Keep in mind, all this yarn was in my living room! Check out the amazing socks that fellow knitters made for me! I feel like the richest woman in the world with socks!
This is our wall of beautiful color and yarn. It’s our Singles Fingering, Worsted, and DK.
We have a wall just for mini skeins. Every color is available in mini sock and mini sparkle.
Let me introduce you to Jan Rose’, my manager, my friend, my mentor, my everything. I’m going to tell you, I have the Best of the Best! She has a heart for people and knitting. Look at her smile. That is who she is on the inside and the outside. She teaches our classes and is assembling a wonderful group of teachers; knitting, crochet, fiber art, and hoping to add more! I would love to have a macrame’ teacher!
We also have Knit Nite every Thursday from 6p-8pm. We’ve had two so far and they are fun! We bring our projects and have snacks and sometimes a glass of wine. All yarn is welcome in the shop. You can bring whatever you are working on. If you need to use the swift and ball winder to wind your yarn, bring it in. We are here for you and your needs and to promote all yarn and crafts.
This is a favorite top of mine, The Weekender by Andrea Mowry. We will be having a KAL (Knit-a-long) with this pattern soon. It’s an easy knit and a good top for a somewhat new beginner. You can see in the background we have a large selection of Atenti knitting bags and purses.
My intention is to support artists and makers and promote the hand made industry. We have a consignment aspect to our shop where we sell handmade finished projects for those that do not knit or crochet. We are in the heart of Downtown Edmond and have a lot of local traffic. Many have walked in to check us out and want to buy my finished samples.
We teach classes on how to knit and crochet and have beautiful unique hand dyed and hand made projects for everyone. It’s a win – win for everyone.
I also want to have unique items in the shop for everyone to enjoy. As we grow, I hope to have more hand made unique jewelry items. I love the wrap bracelets and have a large selection. I love rustic and romantic. These bracelets are so darling! Check out the gorgeous necklace. Gail is making more for me and will be in the shop soon. I will have an article dedicated to her and her beautiful jewelry soon. She makes this with yarn! They are unique and gorgeous!
We’re having a 25% off sale online thru the weekend, ending on cyber Monday. Come check us out!
This is Evelyn, the newest Loops Store Shepherdess. Shelly Brander of KnitStars and Loops Yarn Store posted this on her weekly newsletter. I had to grab it and show all of you!
I was strolling down the page and saw Evelyn. I was thinking, ” What a pretty lady.” when I spotted that cowl and was gobsmacked at how pretty it was! I was like, “Wowwwww, that is so pretty. Those colors look like my Dijon Mustard and Robin’s Egg…..Holy Toledo!! Those are my colors! That’s my yarn!
Ev had whipped up her own version of Susan B. Anderson’s Barrett Cowl, using two skeins of Bulky.
Ev has made this cowl multiple times, in various gauges. It’s a simple fisherman’s rib pattern that even beginners can handle! You can also find a video tutorial on Susan B. Anderson’s blog or YouTube channel.
To make Evelyn’s version, you need one skein x 2 colors of ACTK Bulky. NOTE: For this super-quick version, use a #11 needle, cast on 64 stitches and follow the pattern for the depth of the cowl and when to change colors.
Get your yarn here. (Loops online store). Loops is located in Tulsa. If you are in the area, check them out!
Find the pattern on Ravelry or Susan’s site, here.
I just had to share. If you don’t know about KnitStars or Loops, please look them up. The KnitStars program is amazing and every knitter and crocheter should sign up. They are entertaining, informative, and educational.
I’m at the dye pots today, so I need to get back to them. I wanted to show off the lovely Evelyn and her gorgeous cowl.
Lauren and I finished our The Weekender top by Andrea Mowry. I used our color-way Rocky Mountains and Lauren used Paris.
Lauren may actually kill me for posting these pictures, some are not flattering. I like them because they show the fun love Lauren and I have for each other.
I needed a haircut. My bangs were in my face and frustrating. I tend to be that person that cuts my own hair and horribly messes it up. I was proud of myself for superman like strength in restraining myself from taking the scissors to my bangs the day before a trunk show! Now that the trunk show is over, I’ve cut my bangs and should have done it then!
I don’t remember what we were talking about here, but the look on our faces is funny. I want to say Lauren smelled something bad and was asking me if I “did it.”.
Apparently, it was really funny!
Lauren and I have such fun the in dye studio. I feel so blessed.
The Weekender is a great easy knit. My size actually fits Lauren better and Lauren’s size fits me better. We tried to trade sweaters, but we each loved our own version and yarn choices better so we stuck with our own projects.
Lauren recently made “Angel Fire” and I can’t wait to see this knit up!
I’m off to dye up some yarn to fulfill some orders. Have a great day and Happy Holidays!
Lauren made this GORGEOUS shawl by Susanne Sommer of SuSo Knits. It’s called Brioche Tiles. It is so pretty! She did a fabulous job! I’m so proud of her. Brioche is a little challenging. Once you get it down, you’ve got it. This project is not mindless knitting. You do need to pay attention to it, but, it is well worth the time!
We have the Nightingale Kit on sale. It has the 3 skeins of yarn to make this beauty! I am so proud of her! She did a fantastic job! It’s stunning.
David’s Yarn in Edmond, OK had a little Halloween party. This is Pixie (the blonde) and her best friend, Lydia (the red head). They are the characters, angel and demon, from “Good Omens”. I thought they looked great.
This is a beautiful shawl in our color-way “Fern”. I don’t know the name of this pattern. If you are interested in it, let me know , and I will find out for you.
I’m off to list some new shawl cuffs in the shop. They are so popular, they sell fast.
It’s cold and wet here in Oklahoma. My husband is lighting the fireplace now. Maybe some hot chocolate later… We put Kahlua in our hot chocolate. Try it. It’s delicious!
To celebrate this beauty, we are doing a Give-A-Way of the three skeins of Dk weight yarn needed to make this gorgeous piece. You enter on Instagram. Find me “A Chick That Knitz” and Follow me and tag a few of your fiber friends. That’s it. That enters you into the drawing. The drawing ends on Sunday at noon on 9/29/19. The winner will be announced on Instagram.
I’m also wearing a shawl cuff, it’s the red leather wrap holding it all together. Teresa, from Two Unravelled Chicks and a Llama has a beautiful assortment of these. You can purchase them online at her shop.
This adorable kitty was shared with me at my Etsy store. It’s made in our color-way “Gold Rush”. I am just amazed at what cute things people make. I am actually taking a class starting next week to learn how to do this. I will be making a Llama.
I am also so pleased with my Mount Pleasant top.
Gugga and Luke
Crop tops are all the rage right now to wear with high waisted jeans. I do not wear the high waisted jeans. I have a belly. I like to wear empire waste type tops to cover my belly. Wearing a flowing type top under the Mount Pleasant looks great. It allows me to wear these super cut tops. I made this with our “Dijon Mustard” color-way.
Hi Friends! I hope you are all doing well. I’ve finished my first Test Knit ever! This is the Dovah Shawl by Kelly McClure of Boho Knits. Isn’t it beautiful?! I am in love! Thank you Kelly for such a lovely pattern!
Imagine the color combinations! I’m going to be putting some kits together for various options for this shawl.
Wouldn’t this be gorgeous ! Kelly has published the pattern with a 3 color option. This would be stunning. This is the “Nightingale Kit” listed in the shop.
My friend Catalina made this cute shawl.
It’s the perfect size for a Spring or Fall scarf. I live in jeans. I see all of my fashion through that lens. I like to wear sundresses too. I like to wear a little light weight cardigan with sun dresses more so than shawls. I like to wear my shawls with jeans.
Lake of Shining Waters Shawl
Catalina made this out of our “Nebula” color-way. I see this with a white t-shirt/blouse and jeans. Pretty.
We are having a trunk show at David’s Yarn this Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 11:00 to until 7:00. Come out and say “Hi”. We’ve got some new Fall colors to debut. New colors and the softest bulky yarns ever!
I’ve got skeins to label. I wish you all the best and hope to see some of you on Saturday.
Here is a link to our YouTube channel. Watch to see Lauren’s Swoncho! It’s divine!
(and these were the good expressions YouTube picked for us – lol )
I feel like such a braggadocious yarn person! I will admit it! Yes. I am. I love yarn! Join me all yarn lovers! Love all the yarn with me! I’m working on a test knit for Kelly McClure of Boho Knits. It’s called the Dovah Shawl. I need to get it done by August 22. It’s so pretty, I just had to share it. Get ready, she will release it by the end of August. I have all kinds of kits and color-ways to make it with. I’m working with “Bark” and “Primrose”.
I also love a good sale. I’m the type of person that will wait to purchase something until a sale is on. So, of course, I’m going to apply that to all my beautiful co-yarn lovers. I’ve got a 20% off sale going on in the Etsy Store. Check out some of our new color-ways.
This is “Midnight Canyon” on worsted! Grant is a Jazz musician and teaches at UCO here in Edmond, OK. He plays Jazz at various locations around town. He is cool! He has that soft cool jazz voice. I like to listen to him talk. He came over and made “Midnight Canyon”. I took it to a local yarn store trunk show and it sold out as quick as I got it out of the box. Grant is off playing Jazz, so I had to make it myself. This is my version of Grant’s original color-way. I love the manly energy of this yarn.
This is Lauren’s yarn baby. She made a teal version called “Starling” that is one of our best sellers. It’s gorgeous! We had a request to make it a little more blue than teal. This is it! Introducing “Robin’s Egg”. It is sooooo pretty! We have it available in sparkle and it’s breathtakingly beautiful! Seriously! 20% off this week!
Lavender Fields. Do I need to say more? This is a top seller too. Here it is in all her glory on Fingering Singles. Readily available to ship to you immediately. It’s gorgeous and on sale!
Get out of the heat and let’s shop for some pretty art yarn! Back to school sale!
Also friends, the little chick you see in the pictures represents me, A Chick That Knitz. I had another one that represented Lauren and it fell and broke into pieces. If anyone finds a cute chick, let me know, and I will buy it! I am on the hunt.
Stay cool friends. Enjoy indoors and air conditioning and YARN!
