Brian and Buttercup

5Txu6XBeROCRVZ%3%oeI+w

We have Goldendoodle puppies!  I want to share some cute pictures.  This little boy is my favorite!  They are all adorable cute puppies, but Brian has formed an attachment to me. I was trying to take some pictures to list them for sale and he would not leave my side long enough for me to get a snapshot.   I turned the lens around to get pics of him with me.

fullsizeoutput_3427

Look how sweet he is!  He is giving me a cuddle!  Unfortunately, it makes no sense for me to keep any of our pups.  My pets are his parents.  Here are a few more pics.,

fullsizeoutput_343f

This is Buttercup.  She is stunning!  She is so beautiful.

fullsizeoutput_3435

fullsizeoutput_343eLook at her coat.  It is so thick and curly.  Her mother, Sandy, could have been a show dog.  She is really pretty.  Our vet tells us so :-).  Our vet gets down on the floor and cuddles Sandy and pours out compliments to her.  Buttercup takes after her mother.

We also have a few black Goldendoodles, but they are hard to photograph at times.

fullsizeoutput_341a

The black Goldendoodles have such silky curls.  The creams ones are more like cotton fluff and the black pups have silky curly coats.

If you’ve stuck with me thru the adorable puppy pictures, I have one more thing to show you.   My step-daughter, Bailey, is super creative and talented.  She made me a logo for “Achickthatknitz”.     What do you think?   It’s me.

IMG_0860

She actually started custom making these.  She will work with you to make a logo.  I’m so impressed with her talent.

Happy Thanksgiving !

Apple Salad and Good Vibes

fullsizeoutput_29d1

We are smack dab in the middle of apple season and I want to share a yummy apple salad recipe.  You can make it with Sugar Free pudding or Lite or Sugar Free Cool Whip to cut back on some calories.   It’s best to use a nice crisp apple such as Gala or Honeycrisp.   I’ve used Red Delicious before and it didn’t turn out well.

Screen Shot 2018-10-28 at 5.08.11 PM

I’ve also finally completed my last road trip project!

fullsizeoutput_29a1

It’s the Good Vibes Shawl by Nadia Cretin-Lechenne.

fullsizeoutput_299f

It was an enjoyable easy knit.

fullsizeoutput_29be

It will be a cute worn as a cowl with a sweater cardigan.

Bailey and Henry are coming from Wyoming for a visit this week!  We get to take the babies out for Halloween.  Well, the mom’s do.  I’ll be making the hot chocolate for when they get back from their trick-or-treating adventures.

Happy knitting

Knitting Bags

Welcome to my knitting closet.   This is where I keep my worsted weight yarns and some other things too.

shSln8KrRuKidenxN5KB5A

This is where I hang my knitting bags.  Some are expensive knitting bags and some are just big purses, and others, my mother made me.

RnPIYfe8QdWZPUh%IPs+WA

I want to show off the one’s my mom made for me.  She is a very talented seamstress.  This is the first one she made for me.

bl%Q3FeyStaQxg%M44DA2w

I have to explain…she used to sew scrubs for me for my job as a nurse at a hospital.  She has actually sewn for me my entire life.  She hated it when my girlfriends would want to wear my clothes.   (She didn’t make all my clothes, just some) Most teenage girls share their clothes.   It happened in my early single twenties also.  My girlfriends liked to wear my clothes.  Again, Mom hated it.  So she started putting my initials on my scrubs.

Remember the TV show “Laverne and Shirley”?

Screen Shot 2018-10-11 at 9.22.57 AM

I felt like Laverne with my initials on my scrubs.  I really didn’t like it and asked her not to put my initials on my scrubs anymore.   LOL.   She still wanted to put my initials on my scrubs, so she changed from putting them on the front top of my shirt to the hem of my pants.   Nobody could see the initials.  I was fine with that and she was happy to play with her embroidery.

EFQhUUbuR5a3CJaTAY6uaQ

What’s that?  Looks like initials to me!   She still does it!  I love it actually.  I think it’s great on my knitting bag.  It was a pleasant surprise when I saw them there.  Even though they are my initials, it’s my mother’s mark, and I will always think of her when I see them.  It’s more than just a knitting bag, it’s a keepsake.

fullsizeoutput_28d5

This bag has several pockets, two large open areas, and a zippered middle area.  It’s a great bag.

fullsizeoutput_28f0

It has a zipper closure too.  You can zip up the entire bag.

fullsizeoutput_28e9

I liked my knitting bag so well, that I bought some materials for her to make me another one.   I like this one better.  I use it often.   It has so many pockets!  They are all around the outside of the bag.

fwn6LPa8RmOftBs8kaIy%w

I love the yellow!  This one came with some matching knitting accessories.

This is a little needle holder and small accessory holder.  Zoom in on this!  It’s really neat!  It has an attached pin cushion (not removable) and check out the little yellow pockets.  There is tons of room for those little stitch markers.  It has a drawstring closure.

fullsizeoutput_28e4

Matching knitting needle holder.

This is a circular knitting needle holder.   I use this when I’m on the road for a road trip.  I can carry several different sizes in here.

I have no idea where to find the pattern.  We found them at Hancock’s (which is now closed in our town).  I don’t sew so I don’t know where people find sewing patterns now.  You’ll have to ask my mom at Joyful-expressions

All the other bags are inexpensive large totes from Target or TJMaxx.  I have one expensive knitting bag that I purchased at the DFW Fiber Festival (Dallas-Fort Worth).

KNITSTARS is open for enrollment for one week for $199.00.    If you haven’t heard of knitstars, click on the link and check it out.   I’ve joined the 1st and 2nd sessions, this will be the 3rd.   I’ve enjoyed the prior 2 and will sign up for 3.  It’s worth the money.  I’ve even gone back and watched the classes multiple times.

I’ve got to get dressed for bungee fitness!  I have a class this morning.  Happy Thursday!

I have a yummy apple salad recipe to share soon.  I need to take a picture for you.  I will have it here for you shortly!  It’s really good!

Bungee Fitness

I have found the funnest way to get some exercise!  It’s Bungee Fitness.  I found this place by chance, driving errands one day.  I’ve seen a video on youtube and it looked like so much fun.  We had our first class today and it was a blast!  We’ve signed up for more.

Lindy, Lauren, and Tammy

I had a horrible neck injury 12 years ago from being hit from behind at a stop light.  It threw the soft spongy disc between the vertebrae into my spinal cord.  I was told that if I tripped or fell, I would be permanently paralyzed for the rest of my life.  It was a big deal.  It required neck surgery to fix it.  Long story short, I injured my neck again and damaged two other discs in my neck.  I was told never to exercise again other than walk.  Twelve years later and I have become a couch potato.  (always knitting, but in the couch nonetheless).

fullsizeoutput_2938

This type of exercise is so easy on the joints!  I’ve had knee issues all my life and this did not hurt my knees at all!  I did a ton of squats today and no knee pain!   I’m overweight and out of shape.  This was the beginner class.  I had to stop and rest during the class.  It’s a real workout.  My face was red as a beet and my hair was all wet!  The girls were all sweaty too.  It’s a workout!

fullsizeoutput_2956

This is Lindy and I after our workout!  Yes, I get extremely red in the face when I work out.  Lauren was worried, she thought I was going to die.  I was hoping the teacher wouldn’t get worried about me and make me stop or say something.  I just get really red in the face with a lot of exertion.

I am a clutz and a couple of times, I couldn’t do it, and just hung there for a second.  I messed up a lot.  It was a nice teacher and she encouraged us and I didn’t feel  self-conscious.  We all loved it and are going back for some more.  If it gets me off the couch,  helps me get healthier, and is fun to do then I’m all in!  If there is one in your area, you should try it too.   It’s also something fun to do with your family and friends.

Happy Knitting!

George

Good Morning!  Fall has finally arrived here in Oklahoma.  I would like to introduce our newest family member, George, shown here with Luke.

fullsizeoutput_28be

George is a Standard Poodle.  He will, one day, be the new dad to our Goldendoodles.

fullsizeoutput_2907

Luke and I are playing with our neighbors here.  I wanted to show you Max.  Do you see where he is?   That cat!  He is so wonderfully weird!  I love him so!  He will sit in the stroller and take a walk with me and Luke.   Max loves this family.  He is often found hanging out with them.

fullsizeoutput_28c9

We drove to Missouri to get George.  He sat on my lap for the entire four hour trip!

I’m going to give a little dog advise.  When you are thinking of buying a dog, especially an expensive one, you need to pay attention to the parents.  Personalities and temperaments are passed down to the pups.  If you want to know what kind of puppy you are getting, pay attention to the parents!

Stitch Markers!

fullsizeoutput_28eb

I was really excited to show you all something neat I had discovered to save you all some money!   Turns out, I have no idea what I’m talking about.  Do you see the little tin with the gold metal stitch markers?  I bought a little bag online at a knitting store and paid about $9.00 for them.   I’ve tried all kinds of different stitch markers and these are my favorites.    I’ve been shopping in the bead/jewelry isle at the craft stores and found these metal colored rings for $2.99 (half price days $1.50).    The green and purple rings I found at a bead store in Colorado, they are the $3.50 ones.

I get really excited when I find great deals.  I thought I had discovered a knit hack and wanted to share with everybody.

I tried to find the website I purchased my $9 stitch markers and found them on KnitPicks for $1.99 for 100 of them!   WHAT!?!?!   How did I not find these before?  They are even cheaper than my great find.

Well, if you want a variety of colors with your stitch markers at an affordable price, go shop at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.  They have lots of different sizes and colors in the jewelry/bead isles.

fAnlYMycRfq76dd%rZ9Hjg

Here’s a quick peek at my current knitting project.   It’s my road trip project to Wyoming.  I’m almost done.  I fear I’m going to run out of the brown color for the last stripe!  I’m just going to use a different brown if I run out.  It’s a shawl if you can’t tell.  I will show you all soon when it’s done.

Wrap Bracelets

I brought home a new skill from Wyoming!  My sister-in-law, Christine was kind enough to show me how to make these leather wrap bracelets.   I love them!

fullsizeoutput_282d

I’ve made two of them so far.  Actually, the one below is one that Christine gave me.

ymmZaoJ%Qxyd2iBsj2LW5A

Here is the other one I made.

gvEB21E0TKak+OTq%LeqEQ

I do not like to sew.  I did sew my son’s nursery decor by myself; crib bedding, crib bumpers, and curtains.  I can sew.  I just do not enjoy it much.  I prefer knitting.  Hand sewing the beads on the leather bracelets is nice though.  I’m enjoying it.

I’m enjoying it so much, I’ve started a new stash.

It’s a beautiful day here and we’ve got three grandkids over playing today.  Currently, two of them are jumping on the trampoline with the kids next door.  One has gone home for a nap.

fullsizeoutput_2887

This is the usual reaction to Len.  He is always making someone laugh out loud.

fullsizeoutput_2891

Len gave the kids a ride in front of the house.  The other kids had helmets.  Luke was insistent for his turn too, so we had to give him a little ride.  No helmet, but going very slow and only as far as our neighbor’s house.

Happy Sunday!

Baby Gramps Cardigan

fullsizeoutput_2816

Isn’t this the cutest baby cardigan!  The pattern is even cuter.  I was in a hurry and left off the elbow pads and pockets.  Here is the link for the Gramps Cardigan

fullsizeoutput_27f1

Henry turned 8 months old last week.  He doesn’t even know how to crawl yet.  He’s at that stage where babies learn to get up on their knees.  He looks like he should be helping his Dad operate one of the heavy equipment machinery that he operates for his concrete business.  He is such a big baby.   My son, John, was always a big baby, top 95%, but Henry has got to have him beat.

fullsizeoutput_280d

Funny side note here,  I hope it doesn’t embarrass Bailey, but it was charming and cute.  It was discovered that Bailey thought that Len was coloring his hair grey on the sides by using “A Touch of Grey”.  All these years, she believed that he colored the grey part of his hair grey to look distinguished.  It wasn’t until this visit she learned otherwise.

fullsizeoutput_933

This is Len when I met him.  He was trying to hide the grey side walls here.  Isn’t he handsome….  We were crazy about each other from day one.  Henry, his grandson, has his beautiful blue eyes.

6E4HLH4sTs6m1k501tEmuw

Luke has a Gramps Cardigan too.  This was fresh off the needles and I still need to sew the buttons on to be finished.  I’m going to give him the elbow pads and possibly the pockets.

We sure did miss Luke.  He gave me such affection when we got home.  He leaned his face into mine and gave me one of those wide mouthed, tongue out, wet kisses…allll over my face!  Then hugged me some more (and I was wondering if he would forget me).

Have a great week.

Wyoming 2.0

Kirwin Ghost Town near Meeteetse, Wyoming.

6psk4mZ8TwSfCnTeWc74xg

The kids took us hiking at an old deserted mining town.  It was last a booming little mining town in 1906.  I watch “Poldark” on PBS, so I was a little familiar with the mining towers.  (It’s a good show to binge watch by the way.)

dHSGI9CcRHWBNgwVeZFm%g

Trevor told us that a paranormal group came out and did a documentary on the ghost activity around here.   Happy to say, we did not run into any ghosts.

fullsizeoutput_276a

Boiler and mining tower.  This is how they hauled gold up out of the mountains.  The town fell because they did not have a nearby railroad to transport goods.

I didn’t take a picture of the outhouse but it was interesting.  It was an outhouse, but one for several people at one time, like at a modern day public restroom with multiple stalls.  With all the wildlife around, I’m sure you had a potty buddy for safety reasons.

Trevor and Henry taking a hike.  It was a beautiful day.

Henry during one of our walks.  This is the corn field on the other side of the road from the pasture full of cows.

Bailey rescued this sweet little black kitten and it LOVES Henry!  They are so cute together.    Henry pulls at it’s ears and tries to eat the kitty and the kitty just purrs and rubs itself all over Henry.

Henry and his dog Lucchese.  Bailey upgraded her Jeep to a family version (4 door).

fullsizeoutput_2809

Len, Bailey, and Henry.  Check out Henry’s cardigan!  I know!  It’s so cute!  I can’t wait to show you!  I’ve had it done for a while, but I wanted to wait until Henry could wear it for pictures to show you.

On our way home, we stayed overnight in Colorado Springs, CO.  We were eating at a Mexican restaurant on the patio, and these critters showed up.

fullsizeoutput_2822fullsizeoutput_2826fullsizeoutput_2828

This little guy got a little too close for my comfort.  He got right up under our table.  I was taking a picture with my phone and I guess he thought I was giving him food.  He got as close as his paws on the chair next to mine under the table.  He stared at me eye to eye and for a second, I thought he might go rabid and get me.  Just as a little fear hit me, he (or she) backed off and went on with their walk.

I found one of them up in a tree on our way out.

fullsizeoutput_2824

I have lots more to share, but I don’t want to overwhelm you.  I will show and tell Luke and Henry’s cardigans next time.

Happy Fall Y’all

Wyoming

08tLDR%NQnKubnkCjJuIKw

How about a little trip to Wyoming today?  We are visiting our daughter, Bailey, Trevor, and Henry in Wyoming.  We are in a pocket of paradise here.  We’re in a small farming town, the closest metro being 2 1/2 hours away.  We’re enjoying the heck out of Henry.  Len also likes to help Bailey with projects around the house, so were doing some of that too.

I’ve been taking Henry for walks down this little country dirt road behind a corn field.  One side is solid corn and the other is a field full of cows.  I’m sure nobody ever walks down this road!  I’ve seen the cows for 4 walks now.  They lift their heads, stare at us, moo a little bit, and that’s our walk.  Yesterday, I guess the cows got curious enough that they all came running over to see us.

q6o%4udXQ+m4rSDwI883IQ

Imagine a huge herd of cows running over to you.  They have a little hot wire fence so the cows don’t stray.  I was so worried the cows were going to try and get through the hot wire to get to us, and they were all going to get shocked.  I guess they are familiar already with the fence as they stopped right at it.

Bm9YnsqlRlakMPjw30ywKQ

Look how cute they are!  They were all squeezing in to get a good look at us.

These momma’s and their kids were checking out this grandma and her grandkid.  It was pretty neat.  I’m a city girl remember.  This is a real treat for me.

They have all kinds of water collected from the snow coming from the mountains.  It’s beautiful fertile ground here.

fullsizeoutput_2704

We stopped at The Big Texan on our way to Wyoming.  It’s in Amarillo, Texas.  Have you seen the movie, “The Guilt Trip” with Seth Rogan and Barbara Streisand?  It’s about a road trip with a son and his mother.  They have a scene where they stop at The Big Texan and Barbara Streisand’s character eats a free 72 oz steak dinner.  This is the place.  The staff wear cowboy hats and there is a singing cowboy that goes around and sings to your table.  I had a wonderful prime rib lunch for $14.00.   This will be our stopping place from now one.

Happy Knitting friends.

I have road trip project I’m working on.  I’ll show you soon.  It’s a shawl.

Mrs. Crosby’s Dye Workshop

Screen Shot 2018-09-08 at 1.50.32 PM

Lauren and I attended this dye workshop and had a great time.  Amanda Jarvis is the artist behind Mrs. Crosby’s yarns, based in Chicago.  SWAK (Sealed With A Kiss), in Guthrie, Oklahoma, hosted the class.

fullsizeoutput_26d8

Keely is a fabulous host!  She loves to cook gourmet food.  Her hors d’oeuvre’s are always interesting.  Not to mention, she serves wine and last night, she also served frozen margarita’s, and strawberry margarita’s.  I know after 2 glasses of wine, I was feeling pretty good, and having a fun relaxed time.

The beginning of the class, everyone is quiet, and doesn’t know anybody.  People are being polite and using their best manners.  Start drinking some wine, playing in the colors, and by the time the class is nearly over, everybody has their hands all over each other’s yarn,” ooooohing’ and ‘awwwwing’.  Personalities start to open up, you start chatting and laughing with the classmates next and near to you.  It turns into a fun time.

IMG_0382

Len asked me how my class went.  I told him, “I was with my people – my tribe.”  lol.  It’s true though!

fullsizeoutput_26dd

I’ve been gathering supplies at garage sales to dye yarn; large pots, measuring cups, teaspoons, heat sources.  It’s so messy, I don’t want to do it in the house.  I’ve been waiting for cooler weather, so we can do it in the garage.  We used a microwave as the heat source in this class.

I like them.  If you have an opportunity to attend a yarn dyeing class, I highly recommend it!  We both had a great time.  We both are really happy with our yarn.  We’re also excited to get playing with dying some yarn this fall.

Silk Garden Fingerless Gloves is the pattern I used for these super easy gloves.

Happy Knitting Friends!
